BALTIMORE — Today, Adam Melvin was sentenced to 65 years in prison for second degree murder, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

In July of 2015, Baltimore Police responded to the 2600 block of Boone Street where they found the murder victim, Dante Barnes, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died.

The investigation revealed that the defendant carried out his murderous rampage after overhearing Barnes tell his son that Melvin was involved with his son’s girlfriend. The defendant who was sitting in his car nearby heard the exchange between the father and son.

He got out of his car, went to the rear of his vehicle, pulled out a handgun, and shot the victim in the torso. As the victim ran away, Melvin shot him in the back of the head.

“The defendant has a lengthy criminal history, including several assault and sex offense charges,” said Seidel. “It’s unfortunate the victim’s son had to witness his own father’s murder.”

Multiple witnesses were interviewed and identified Melvin as the shooter.
