Four children were injured in a drive-by shooting Sunday night in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

They were shot near 66th and Michigan about 7:40 p.m., said Verdi Allen, a Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman.

An 11-year-old girl in serious-to-critical condition and a 15-year-old girl in fair-to-serious condition were taken to Stroger Hospital, Allen said.

A boy and a girl, both 14, were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. The girl was in serious-to-critical condition, and the boy was in fair-to-serious condition, she said.

One of the girls, who was shot in the forearm, raced into a home nearby, where a young girl said she wrapped a white T-shirt around the injured girl’s arm before she was put in an ambulance.

Several young women said there had been an argument that turned into a confrontation at the Brownell Elementary School playground before the shooting. The drive-by shooting happened about 100 yards away from the school.

All of the women who witnessed the park incident said they were afraid to walk in the area and were asking police to take them home.

Chicago Police said there were no shell casings at the scene, so they suspect a revolver was used in the shooting.
