A ‘cocaine user’ had avoided being arrested by police when tests indicated the drug was actually mashed potato.
The man was stopped by officers on suspicion of taking drugs in Brest, in western France.
But following inquiries it became clear that the drug given to him by a dealer was mashed potato powder.
Police had noticed two men, one which was holding his phone horizontally and was appearing to sniff something.
They were able to make out a white line on the surface of the phone and suspected the man was taking cocaine.
According to Le Telegramme, the men, who had been drinking, confessed everything.
One of the men had just bought some LSD from the other, who had offered him a line of cocaine as a ‘bonus’.
But when it was examined the man was let off as it proved to be mashed potato starch.
His friend, however, was taken in for questioning over possession of LSD.
