D.C. Releases Body Camera Video of Fatal Police Shooting on Christmas Day – [GRAPHIC]

This video is footage recorded by an MPD officer’s Body Worn Camera showing the MPD response to a call for a man with a knife at a private residence, which resulted in a police-involved shooting. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 25, 2016, in the 3200 block of Walnut Street, NE. The identities of the individuals involved have been redacted.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 25, 2016, officers from the Fifth District were called to the 3200 block of Walnut Street, Northeast for a domestic related disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers encountered an adult male subject armed with a knife. The subject ignored officer’s verbal commands directing him to drop the weapon and at least one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the subject. The suspect’s weapon was recovered on scene.

The subject was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, and was later pronounced dead. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave.

The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Gerald Hall of Northeast, DC.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau responded to the scene and will be responsible for the investigation. Officers involved in the incident were equipped with body worn cameras and all footage will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
