Bertie County, NORTH CAROLINA – A headless body found on April 7 has been identified as the fugitive who escaped from the Chowan County Detention Facility in Edenton on March 27, according to WTKR.
A worker found the badly decomposed body and called police.
It was unclear if investigators had any suspects in the killing.
Kevin Singleton escaped by creating “a weapon-like tool from his toothbrush” and forcing a corrections officer to release him.
“Singleton was last sighted near the jail around the intersection of Gale and Oakum Streets. K9 units were deployed to search for him and continue combing the area, including woods and abandoned houses,” the Sheriff said at the time.
No further details were available.
