NEW YORK — Police Officers from the 112 Precinct in Forest Hills were able to help an elderly lady get home last Wednesday. The Q 23 bus that the 73-year-old female was on had to take a detour because of the snow condition in the street making it not passable at the intersection of 68 Drive and 108 Street.

The woman became alarmed when she did not recognize the route and communicating with the driver was difficult because she only spoke Chinese. Police Officers Faulkner and Timpano responded to the scene and called Sergeant Yuan, their supervisor, to assist in translating. However he spoke a different dialect and he too was not able to communicate with the woman.  Determined to help the woman, Sergeant Yuan called someone that he believed spoke the same dialect as the elderly woman.  Fortunately the person did speak the same language and the officers were able to find out how to assist the woman.
