CALIF — Authorities in El Dorado County, California were searching for a missing Cessna Sunday.

The Civil Air Patrol released the following statement:

“A Cessna aircraft returning to the Sacramento area from Idaho with a single pilot on-board has been reported overdue. The California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol was activated by the United States Air Force Rescue Coordination Center at Tyndall Air Force Base and the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department has been activated by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to search for the missing aircraft. The CAP National Radar Analysis Team and the CAP Celluar Forensics Team are also supporting the search.”

“The last known position of the aircraft is in a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains southwest of Lake Tahoe. Weather is hampering the ability to launch search aircraft but ground teams are assembling to hike into the area. Once weather clears, both the Civil Air Patrol and the El Dorado County Sheriff are prepared to launch search aircraft.”

No further details were available.
