Massive Power Outage Affects Staten Island

**UPDATE** Staten Island University Hospital’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated and all staff are being held over.

The hospital engineer reports all hospital facilities are being powered by diesel generators and tertiary generators are being brought in as backup. A total of 60,000 gallons of diesel fuel is on site for the generators.

Outpatient services have been discontinued for the evening.

The hospital’s Emergency Department was on diversion, but has since been taken off.

There is no impact to Emergency Department services.

Initial Report: STATEN ISLAND — Con Ed reduced power to 138,000 homes early Monday. Residents and businesses in Queens and Brooklyn were asked residents to conserve electricity.

Con Ed reported over 11,000 outages on Staten Island Monday afternoon and scattered ones elsewhere.

To report a loss of electric service, contact Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633.

If you are affected by an outage, turn off all appliances, avoid downed and hanging power lines, and keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage.

Do not use generators indoors. If you are having a life threatening medical emergency and need immediate assistance, please dial 9-1-1.
