A 75-year-old driver has been arrested after driving his car onto a railway station and then leaving it on the train tracks.

The Mitsubishi Shogun smashed through the car park barriers and proceeded on to the platform at Kempton Park Station, England, before balancing his car on the edge of the platform.

The man, from Middlesex, is believed to have fled the station after his stunt at about 8:20  on Saturday evening.

Officers from Surrey Police and the British Transport Police were called to the station, where they found the vehicle with its two front tires on the tracks.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘We received reports at 8.20pm on Saturday, 29, August that a car had driven through the car park barriers and on to the platform.

‘Officers from BTP and Surrey Police attended. No-one was injured and the car, a Mitsubishi Shogun, was discovered hanging off the edge of the platform with its front end on the track.’

The pensioner was arrested on suspicion of endangering safety and has been interviewed and released on bail until September 30.
