Beaumont, TEXAS — Police and fire crews were responding to a huge fire at the ExxonMobil refinery in Beaumont on Thursday, according to local reports. Officials say the flare up, caused by a storm, is “under control.”
Police issued a statement: “We are getting numerous calls about the visible flaring and smoke from Exxon Mobil in downtown Beaumont. There is no cause for alarm and everything is under control. There were power outage issues from the brief storm and flaring operations are used to help maintain safety levels. Plant officials as well as Jefferson County and City of Beaumont Officials are monitoring the situtation.”
Lamar University has closed for the day.
No injuries were immediately reported. Some residents in the area were evacuated. Stay with Breaking911 for updates.
