PHILADELPHIA – A 4-year-old boy is dead after he was reportedly impaled by glass from a picture frame Wednesday night.

Local media reports a picture with a glass frame fell from a wall in the Philadelphia home, sending glass flying and a piece struck the boy, Adrian Ortega, killing him.

WNBC reported: The 4-year-old boy was with his mother and other family members inside a home on the 3200 block of North Reese Street at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday. The boy was on the second floor of the home when he fell onto a piece of glass and was impaled through his abdomen, police said. The boy’s uncle told Telemundo62 the glass was from a picture frame.

The boy was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It’s just a shame because they are so well loved, so well loved that it’s a complete shock,” neighbor Edward Rodriguez told WPVI. “When it happened, it just went up and down the neighborhood like lightning.”

Police are investigating. No charges have been filed.
