First Lady Jill Biden underwent a scheduled outpatient procedure known as Mohs surgery to remove and examine cancerous lesions on her right eye and chest, the White House announced on Wednesday.

A third lesion on her left eyelid is still being examined.

According to Dr. Kevin O’Connor, President Joe Biden’s physician, all of the lesions have been confirmed to be basal cell carcinoma, a highly curable form of skin cancer that is slow-growing and typically confined to the surface of the skin.

The first lady experienced some swelling and bruising but is reportedly in good spirits and feeling well.

The Bidens spent the day at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland, after which the President returned to the White House alone, while the First Lady was expected to follow later in the evening.
