BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — A security guard at a Pembroke Park warehouse died Saturday morning after being struck by a tractor trailer.

The tragic accident happened around 8 a.m. April 8 at the warehouse located at 3375 S.W. 24th St. Shortly before the incident, Vincent Minott, 37, pulled out of a loading bay thinking his delivery had already been loaded. He then exited the cab of the truck and walked to the rear of the trailer to secure the trailer doors when he noticed the trailer was empty. Minott notified security guard Harold Barrington Dayes about what happened and told him he was going to pull back into the bay.

According to a witness, Dayes appeared to be writing something down as he stood in direct path of Minott as he began backing up the trailer toward the bay. The witness ran toward Dayes as he yelled for him to get out of the way of the trailer but got no response. Dayes was knocked down by the trailer before the witness managed to get the driver’s attention and got him to stop.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies who arrived first on scene and began administering first aid to Dayes noticed he was wearing an in-ear Bluetooth headset device.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported him to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Based on witness statements, the evidence on scene and all other information gathered, it appears Dayes’ death was the result of a tragic workplace accident. No criminal charges are pending.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified of the incident.
