Key Colony Beach, FLORIDA — A 24-year-old Key Colony Beach woman was arrested Monday night after fleeing from Middle Keys Deputies in a vehicle and then on foot.
Meladie Lynn Anisko was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and giving law enforcement a false name. She was also cited for running multiple stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Deputy Juan Carlos Marino saw a Nissan Frontier pickup truck with its license plate partially obstructed driving southbound on U.S. 1 near 111th Street at approximately 10:04 p.m. Deputy Marino got behind the Nissan. The Nissan driver began making quick turns, first into a pharmacy parking lot. Deputy Marino turned on his lights and siren. The Nissan driver then made several turns on several different streets. The driver, later identified as Anisko, ran multiple stop signs and drove on the wrong side of the road.
The Nissan eventually turned back onto U.S. 1 southbound, before making a U-turn and proceeding northbound at a high rate of speed. Deputy Victor Cristea successfully deployed tire spikes at the Toms Harbor Cut Bridge. Deputies, a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle and a Key Colony Beach Police vehicle followed the Nissan into Duck Key whereupon it finally stopped.
A male passenger in the Nissan stated the driver left the scene. Anisko was found and detained shortly thereafter by Deputy Cristea.
Anisko gave Deputy Marino a false name and ran from him while he was trying to identify her.
Anisko stated she fled because she had a warrant for her arrest.
Anisko was taken to jail.
The male passenger was not charged.
