A man from Atlanta who tried to avoid arrest by jumping from a third-story window has died from his injuries.

Tyquan Richardson, aged 22, was at a downtown pre-trial intervention for a previous drug charge when police then found a gun outside the building and traced it back to him.

He was then arrested for the weapon, but then escaped officers around him and then crashed through a plate-glass window before landing on the sidewalk.

He was taken to a local hospital before dying around 1:30pm, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan told AJC that Richardson supposedly admitted to having the gun.

‘He was somewhat concerned about what this gun charge would do, based on his record, is our understanding,’ Captain Michael O’Connor told the newspaper.

Police say that the young man told officers he did not want to go back to jail before jumping.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office provides security for the Pre-Trial Services building and will investigate the circumstances that led up to the death.

An official at the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office told Daily Mail Online that an exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy on Wednesday.
