NY School Bus Driver Arrested For Driving Drunk With Kids on Board

NEW YORK — On February 22, 2016, State Police in Cobleskill arrested Daniel R. Mowers, age 42, of Delhi, NY, for Felony DWI, 12 counts of Felony Leandra’s Law, and 13 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Misdemeanor.

Troopers responded to the Gilboa School bus garage after a phone call from a concerned parent whose child was dropped off of the school bus operated by Mowers. The child had reported to the parent that the bus was being operated erratically.

While interviewing Mowers Troopers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Mowers failed Standardized Field Sobriety tests performed at the bus garage and was placed under arrest for being intoxicated while operating the school bus occupied by 13 total students during his bus run, 12 of which were age appropriate for Leandra’s Law.

There were no students remaining on the bus at the bus garage at the time of arrest.

Mowers was transported to SP Cobleskill where he was found to have a blood alcohol content of .12%. He was arraigned in the Town of Broome Court with bail set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond and remanded to the Schoharie County Jail. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Gilboa Court on February 25, 2016 at 7:00 PM.

The investigation is ongoing.
