Girl, 3, Dies After Indiana Apartment Fire Kills Dad, Sister

INDIANAPOLIS – A 3-year-old girl has passed away after suffering injuries in a fire that claimed the lives of her father and sister.

The Indianapolis Fire Department confirmed the girl’s death on Thursday, more than two weeks after the incident. The fire broke out on January 9th in an apartment on the city’s far east side, leaving five people hospitalized.

The girl’s father, identified as 31-year-old Raymond Diggs, and her 15-month-old sister Leilani Rembert, died in the days following the fire.

A 12-year-old boy remains hospitalized, while a 14-year-old boy was released and is recovering.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it is known that it started on a couch.

Officials said a smoke alarm had been removed from the apartment for an unknown reason.
