Vineland, New Jersey (VPD) — On Friday, May 5, 2023, at approximately 11:18am, an Officer with the City of Vineland Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of E. Birch Street for a call for service. The Officer encountered a male subject armed with a large knife. The male subject is alleged to have charged towards the Officer and a civilian on scene, resulting in the Officer shooting the subject two (2) times with his service issued firearm. The civilian on scene was wounded by the subject during the altercation shortly before the Officer discharged his firearm.
The male subject, Luis R. Conde-Perez, age 28, was airlifted to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, NJ where he is listed in stable condition. The wounded civilian was also treated at Cooper Medical Center and released. Conde was charged with Criminal Attempted Homicide, two (2) Counts of Aggravated Assault, and weapons related offenses and is presently detained. The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Unit. This investigation is being conducted in accordance with New Jersey Attorney General Directive 2019-4.
