Independence, Kansas — A cougar is on the loose in a Kansas town after escaping from a zoo Monday morning, officials say.
The cougar escaped from Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo. Park officials and local law enforcement are searching the area.
Police said, “Citizens should take extreme caution, and if you see the cougar do not approach and immediately call 911. At this time we encourage the public to avoid the area.”
It was unclear how the animal escaped.
