A police officer from Louisiana has managed to put a smile on many faces after a heartwarming photo with a child who was lost went viral.

The police officer has since been identified as David Taylor, a member of the force in Crowley, who said a young woman brought he child to him as he patrolled the International Rice Festival at the weekend, and that the boy was clearly distressed.

‘He was extremely upset … I put him on my shoulders to see if he would be able to see his parents,’ Taylor told ABC News.

It took Taylor about half an hour to find the boy’s mother, by which time the little one had calmed down and eventually fell asleep.

‘He started to fall asleep, and I moved him down to my chest.’

It’s a photo of the exact scene Taylor explained that has made so many people happy.

The image was posted online and quickly spread on social media.

However Taylor is reluctant to accept any of the gravitas coming his way.

‘What I was doing is nothing different from the rest of our law enforcement colleagues,’ he said.

‘The only difference is that someone took a photo of me.’
