The hero police officer who shot dead the Berlin truck terrorist is now at risk of being targeted by jihadis.

Local media in Italy report that Luca Scata, aged 29, has now gone into hiding.

His Facebook account and his wounded partner, Christian Movio, aged 36, were removed from the site under orders from Milan’s police commissioner, Antonio De Jesu.

Officers throughout Italy have been warned of the possibility of retaliatory attacks.

Milan police chief Antonio de Iesu said: ‘Amri was a man from northern Africa, like there are many in the Milan area, and ours was a routine check that was carried out by two young and good police officers.’

‘They had no perception that it could be him, otherwise they’d have been more careful.’

Police chief Franco Gabrielli also issued a circular demanding ‘maximum attention’ from officers and members of the public because ‘you cannot rule out retaliatory actions’.

Officials in Rome banned vans and trucks from entering the city center, and anti-terror police wearing face masks and wielding machine guns set up roadblocks on routes leading to tourist sites.

Italy’s new prime minister, Paolo Gentiloni came under fire for disclosing the names of the two policemen.

Gentiloni and Minniti were attacked on social media as members of the public demanded to know why they had ‘put the policemen at risk.’
