NEW YORK, New York — NYPD Officers Raghunath and Nieri of the 103 Precinct saved an 18-month-old baby who was choking on a piece of food Sunday in Queens.

The officers were flagged down near 148th Street and Liberty Avenue by a panicked father holding his infant son who was not breathing due to a piece of apple that was lodged in the baby’s throat.

Turning the baby face down, the two officers immediately began the Heimlich maneuver and requested EMS to respond to their location.

After numerous attempts to dislodge the baby’s airway obstruction, the officers then began performing CPR. After a few minutes of chest compressions the piece of apple was cleared and the baby boy began to cry.

The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital by EMS where he was treated and released with no signs of any injuries.
