A 14-year-old boy has saved his brothers as a fire destroyed their family home.

Jeb Lukens woke to find his family’s home in Rutherford County, North Carolina, engulfed in flames.

Instead of panicking, the brave teenager sprung into action and helped his two younger brothers to safety by lowering them from a bedroom window.

Meanwhile the boys’ father Jesse Lukens was outside the home, having also woken up to the fire and managed to get outside with his wife, Julie, and the rest of their six children.

Mr Lukens battled to get back inside to rescue the three boys but was unable to get through the flames to their bedroom.

Jeb came to the rescue and was able to get brothers Thad, nine, and Morgan, seven, out before it was too late.

He told WLOS that he tried to stay calm and told his brothers to jump out of the window at around 3am on Monday.

Thad leaped to safety, but Morgan – the youngest of the three boys – was afraid to jump.

In cell phone footage taken by an emotional Mr Lukens of his house ablaze, he said: ‘Oh my word Lord, what is this all about? Lord, thank you for getting my boys out of there.’

The family are now staying with a pastor in the town while they work out what to do next. Friends from their church have also helped salvage what they can from inside the home.

A relative has set up a GoFundMe page to help them get their lives back on track.
