An hours-old baby girl was found abandoned with part of her umbilical cord still attached outside of a Georgia home, police have reported.

The newborn, nicknamed Baby Harlan by local police, was found outside of a home on Harlan Road in southwest Atlanta on Monday night.

Police who arrived at the scene, who said she was found with specks of blood on her body, said she appeared to be alert, conscious and breathing, according to information released by police.

Investigators say they also located a pair of bloody women’s underwear near where she was found.

Baby Harlan was transported to a local hospital where she is being looked after, according to WSB Radio.

Georgia’s Safe Haven Law allows a mother to leave a newborn at a medical facility or hospital, as long as the baby is not older than one week old, according 11Alive News.
