A man who was in the process of burglarizing a Texas home surrendered to authorities after believing a police officer who was barking was actually a K-9.

Two neighbors in the Houston, Texas area alerted police to the suspect when they saw the man breaking into a home.

While working at his car repair shop, mechanic Roland Azcuy, says he heard the sound of glass breaking and then saw the suspect enter the home across the street, KHOU reported.

Azcuy called 911 and pulled out his pistol, ready to defend his neighbor’s home.

At the same time, 78-year-old grandmother Ida McGregor, also called 911 about her next-door neighbor’s house being burglarized.

‘If he come out that door I was going to beat him across his legs and across his knees with my walking cane,’ McGregor told KTRK, while waving her cane.

Dispatchers told Azcuy to stay back and just keep watch on the home.

In catching the suspect, Houston Police Officer Orus Baldwin and his partner pretended that they had a police K-9 with them to intimidate the man.

‘One of the officers told (the suspect) he had a K9 with him,’ Azcuy told KHOU. ‘So, (one of the officers) started barking like a dog and the guy hit the ground. He laid down. They handcuffed him and brought him out.’

‘It wasn’t me,’ Officer Baldwin told KHOU while laughing. ‘My partner can pretty well sound like a pretty bad dog. But, anyway, it fooled (the suspect).’

The suspect’s identity has not been released by authorities.
