A husband and his bearded wife have been charged with battery after he beat up his 81-year-old mother in an attack that left her unconscious in a pool of blood.
Raymond and Debbie Sutherland were arrested on Monday in Kissimmee, Florida, for abusing his mother, who remains in a critical condition, in September.
The victim told police from her hospital bed that she ‘had fallen in her bedroom and asked her son on several times for assistance’, but investigators said her injuries were consistent with abuse, not a fall.
The woman woke up covered in blood but was not taken to hospital until her son finally called an ambulance ‘after some time’, 11 Alive reported.
Mr Sutherland, 56, denied harming his mother but claimed he took medication causing him to not remember the incident.
Both he and his goateed wife, 54, were arrested on felony battery charges.
Mr Sutherland was also charged with elderly neglect for not immediately helping his mother.
