NASHVILLE, TENN. — The husband and wife fatally injured at 6 p.m. Saturday when their 1968 Chevrolet Camaro crashed into a rock wall on Cato Road just north of Ashland City Highway are identified as Troy Jenkins, 49, and Cameo Jenkins, 38, of Pegram.

The couple had just left a church parking lot after attending a relative’s funeral. The Camaro accelerated rapidly on Cato Road. Although there were signs of braking, the car did not slow sufficiently and struck a rock wall to the right of the roadway just prior to the Ashland City Highway intersection. The victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they were pronounced deceased.

Excessive speed is the primary contributing factor to the collision. Police say it appears that both persons were wearing seatbelts, which, due to the age of the Camaro, were only lap belts. The car was not equipped with airbags.
