According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, a tragic accident occurred when a family was going through the belongings of an older relative, resulting in the detonation of a hand grenade that claimed the life of an Indiana man and caused injuries to his two teenage children.

The fatal explosion occurred on Saturday evening at a home situated in the Lakes of the Four Seasons community in northwestern Indiana, as per the sheriff’s department.

The 47-year-old man, identified as Bryan Niedert, succumbed to his injuries, while his 14-year-old son and 18-year-old daughter were transported to a hospital due to shrapnel wounds.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez said investigators are currently working to determine if the oin was pulled before the blast.

No additional details regarding the grenade itself or the reasons behind its possession by the relative have been released by the authorities at this time.
