ISIS Claims Responsibility For Deadly Attacks In Jakarta Leaving 7 Dead

The siege that claimed seven lives ended near a Starbucks after the Jihadists blew themselves up after exchanging fire with police.

Five attackers, one police officer and a Canadian man were killed in the attack.

It is reported that two of the attackers were taken alive.

There are at least seventeen people reported as injured.

Police declared the area secure five hours after the situation turned into a battleground.

Jakarta’s police chief told media: ‘ISIS is behind this attack definitely.’

Within minutes of the attack, police were swiftly on scene, deploying armored vehicles and flooding the streets with police.

The Indonesian President cut his trip short from Java to return to Jakarta for meetings on attacks and to address the public.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo described the attacks as an “act of terror”.

“We all are grieving for the fallen victims of this incident, but we also condemn the act that has disturbed the security and peace and spread terror among our people,” he said.
