Israel Fires on Syrian Capital

JERUSALEM – Israel on Tuesday night fired missiles towards the capital of Syria, with Damascus saying that the government’s air defence systems intercepted the projectiles, just two days after the Israeli president said the United States pullout would not affect Tel Aviv’s policy toward the Syrian government.

Videos from local media show the missiles being struck over west Damascus in the area Qatana. The Syrian state news agency reported that Israeli warplanes launched several missiles from Lebanon airspace that were intercepted Syrian Air Defense Forces.

The Israeil Defense Forces confirmed that it activated it aerial defuse system over the Golan Heights to counter an air defence missile fires from Syria, following the reported Israel warplane attack on Syria’s capital.

Analysis from military and regional observers say that the Israeli attack had the largest and most intensive strikes launched on Syria since the Russian jet downing in September.
