WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday the passing of a stopgap spending bill in the United States Senate is “up to the Democrats”, adding that, should there be the partial shutdown feared by Washington, it will be a “Democrat shutdown”.

If there is no spending bill in place by the midnight deadline, the U.S. government will enter a partial shutdown. On the shutdown, Trump said “the chances are probably very good” from his desk in the Oval Office.

The Senate is currently considering an amended spending bill that was passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday, but analysts say that there are not enough Democrats votes to reach the 60 ballots for a successful approval in Congress.
