FLORIDA — The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is currently investigating a fatal accident involving three motorcycles during Bike Week.

Three people have lost their lives in this incident, including a 46-year-old woman from New York State, a 47-year-old man from New York State and a 65-year-old man from Missouri.

The identities of the victims are not being confirmed by DBPD until next of kin notification has been formally made.

Officers responded to the scene on International Speedway Boulevard (ISB) & NASCAR Drive at 12:24 a.m. today (March 10, 2020), finding three Harley-Davidson motorcycles and four people who were directly involved.

The sole survivor of that incident – a 55-year-old Missouri man – tells officers he and the other Missouri man were riding westbound on ISB towards NASCAR in their respective motorcycles, a blue 2012 Harley-Davidson and a maroon 2018 Harley-Davidson. Both were using the middle left lane.

The third motorcycle involved – a dark blue 2012 Harley-Davidson – was also heading westbound on ISB towards NASCAR in the outside right lane, roughly parallel to the other two motorcycles involved.

The man from New York State was operating the dark blue 2012 Harley-Davidson and the woman from New York State was a passenger on that motorcycle.

Investigators with DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit believe that motorcycle crossed directly into the path of the maroon Harley-Davidson while its operator attempted to change lanes. That is when the front of the maroon Harley-Davidson crashed into the driver’s side of the dark blue Harley-Davidson, knocking all three people off their respective motorcycles.

The impact also sent the maroon Harley-Davidson sliding into the rear tire of the blue Harley-Davidson, causing its driver to lay it down on its side.

The driver of the maroon Harley-Davidson and the driver and passenger of the dark blue Harley-Davidson all passed away from their injuries at the scene.

The driver of the blue Harley-Davidson had minor injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics. He refused transport to a nearby hospital.

Charges are not pending at this time.

The westbound lanes of ISB were shut down for most of the night as investigators processed for evidence. Those lanes have since re-opened.
