El Cerrito, CA. — ECPD Detectives and SRO’s worked on the investigation of this shooting incident throughout the weekend.

One of the new developments was that a bullet struck the vehicle of a parent picking up another student, while it was parked on Ashbury Ave near the crime scene at the time of the shooting.

The parent did not find the bullet hole in his vehicle until Saturday.

This morning, the ECPD arrested three ECHS students for possible involvement with the crime.
    They are:
    16 y/o male from Richmond
    16 y/o from El Cerrito
    17 y/o from Richmond
They were taken into custody without incident, on the campus.

They are being held on the charges of attempted murder, and conspiracy. They will be booked at the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall.

Based on information we have received thus far, there is indication that the victim was specifically targeted for the violence. Information does not lead us to believe it was a random attack without motive. However, we will not disclose motive at this time.

The case is still under active investigation. Those with information are still asked to contact the ECPD SRO’s or Detectives to assist us.

El Cerrito is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States, and forms part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It has a population of 23,549 according to the 2010 census.
