JACKSONVILLE — A female infant died after being left in a daycare center van for five hours in Jacksonville Wednesday, officials say.

Around 2:00 p.m. deputies were called to the ‘Ewing’s Love and Hope Preschool and Academy’ due to an unconscious infant in the back of a van.

Deputies say the mother called the daycare to check on her daughter sometime during the day and the employee told her she wasn’t aware the child was there today.

The daycare worker then discovered the child.

Deputies say life-saving efforts were made and the baby was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Homicide investigators were conducting interviews to determine if anyone will be charged with a crime.
