NASHVILLE, TENN. — Fatal crash investigators charged Felipe Castelblanco, 47, with vehicular homicide by intoxication for Tuesday’s 3:25 a.m. head-on collision on Burkitt Road near Whittemore Lane.

Castelblanco was driving his 1997 Ford Econoline van westbound on Burkitt Road when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with the eastbound driver of a 2011 Dodge Challenger, David D. Barnett, 33, of Nashville. Barnett died at the scene.

According to WSMV, the victim is the ‘older brother of Philadelphia Eagles Defensive End and former University of Tennessee player Derek Barnett.’

Castelblanco walked away from the scene but was taken into custody a short distance away. He smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, and had bloodshot/watery eyes. Castelblanco admitted to drinking whiskey prior to the crash.
