Feds Investigate Shooting Threat Against YouTube

CALIFORNIA — On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 1:18 a.m., in the aftermath of the recent shooting incident at the YouTube campus in San Bruno, the San Bruno Police Department learned of an online post threatening another shooting, it was revealed today.

The threat was posted on an Instagram page entitled “youtubeshooters” and it warned that another shooting would be perpetrated against YouTube.

San Bruno Detectives initiated an investigation in an attempt to identify the subject(s) that produced the post. At the same time, the San Bruno Police Department and YouTube Security Officials began working on a security plan to ensure the safety of the campus.

By way of a search warrant, San Bruno Detectives determined that the post originated from a location in the State of Pennsylvania. In partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), contact was made at the identified location. During this contact, a juvenile suspect was identified and admitted to creating this post.

Police say that there is no merit to the threat posted and no additional steps are believed to have been taken toward actually carrying it out.

The San Bruno Police Department is working with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, the FBI, and other prosecutorial authorities, to determine whether or not criminal charges will be pursued.
