Man arrested for murder of 1-year-old who was beaten to death in DC, police say

WASHINGTON — Detectives from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in the 4700 block of Benning Road, Southeast.

At 7:00 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of an unconscious child. Upon arrival, members located an unconscious and unresponsive one-year-old male inside of a residence. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. The cause of death was due to multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The decedent has been identified as 1 year-old Carter Sanders of Southeast, DC.

On Sunday, May 20, 2018, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 28 year-old Brian Jamal Wooden, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder-Felony Murder.
