CINCINNATI — Today, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of Cincinnati resident Darnell Hicks on 1 count of Attempted Murder (Felony 1) and 6 counts of Felonious Assault (Felony 2) in the July 30th drive-by shooting on Ridgeway Avenue in Cincinnati.  If convicted of all charges, he faces the possibility of 60 years in prison.

On July 30th at approximately 8:00 p.m. Hicks fired multiple shots into a crowd in the vicinity of 705 Ridgeway Avenue.   Approximately 12 people had gathered at the scene for a barbecue.

Defendant Hicks was a passenger in a car traveling on Ridgeway when he shot into the crowd and struck the 4-year-old victim in the head.  She remains at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  None of the other victims were struck but were in close proximity to the 4-year-old victim.  The police investigation continues but it does not appear that any of the victims in today’s indictment were an intended target of the shooting.

Prosecutor Deters commented, “This is sickening.  A young child lies in the hospital with serious injuries after being shot in the head by a bullet intended for someone else.   Our entire community should rally together to stop this kind of senseless violence.”
