DELAND, FLORIDA — Volusia County sheriff’s deputies today made an arrest in a 2010 armed home invasion and sexual battery case that was reopened as investigators matched fingerprint and DNA evidence to a suspect.

Jamedd L. Ross, 23, of Orange City was arrested this morning after leaving court in a separate criminal case. Investigators who interviewed him obtained a confession to the March 2010 case that initially offered no suspects or leads.

The home invasion occurred in the early-morning hours of March 28, 2010, when the victim, a 40-year-old woman, was sleeping in her Deltona home. She told investigators multiple unknown suspects came into the house and tied her down. She was punched in the mouth, and one of the suspects held a knife to her chest. One of the suspects sexually battered her while the others stole cash and the victim’s TV.

Investigators processed the scene and collected evidence, but with no leads, the case was suspended six months later.

The case was reopened in February 2015, when a Sheriff’s Office fingerprint technician matched a print from the house to Ross. DNA evidence collected at the scene also confirmed the match.

Ross is charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon, sexual battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping with intent to inflict bodily harm/terrorize the victim. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the case. -VCSO
