FERGUSON, MO — From the Normandy Police Department: On October 28, 2015, at 2:32 pm, the Normandy Police Department requested the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons to assist in an officer involved shooting in the 7700 block of Ellington, within the city limits of Normandy.
The incident began with the suspect interacting with the Ferguson Police Department in their venue as a probable CIT case, at the request of the suspect’s immediate family.
Initial reports were the suspect was suicidal and refused to communicate with family members who had discovered him walking in this area.
Numerous attempts were made to communicate with the suspect as he walked on Bermuda Avenue by Officers of the Ferguson and Normandy Police Departments.
It should be noted that the suspect’s mother, mother’s boyfriend and father were present for parts of this incident.
The suspect continued on Ellington from Bermuda where a confrontation occurred in the front yard of a residence in the 7700 block of Ellington. There, the suspect produced a silver revolver and began firing shots at the officer’s present. A Normandy Police Department officer deployed his Taser as his firearm was still holstered.
Having no effect, the same officer produced his firearm and fired three times as the suspect began to flee across the front yard.
This single Normandy Police Officer was the only officer on scene that fired his weapon during this incident. As the suspect fled, he traveled through the rear yards of Ellington towards Paddington.
While doing so, he fired an additional shot at the officers giving chase.
Officers momentarily lost sight of the suspect as he entered a front yard. Officers heard one additional shot from that area.
Responding to the area, they discovered the suspect down in the front yard suffering from what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound located under the chin.
The suspect was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment. He is identified as 18-year-old Amonderez P. Green.
An independent civilian witness told detectives he observed the suspect running through a backyard in the 7700 block of Paddington carrying a silver revolver.
The investigation revealed the suspect’s weapon to be a 6 shot, .38 caliber revolver, which was recovered at the scene. The weapon contained 4 spent shell casings and 2 live rounds.
Three separate residences, that were behind the officers positions during the foot pursuit, were struck by gunfire.
A projectile recovered from a residence is a ballistic match to the suspect’s firearm. Through further investigation, the revolver recovered at the scene from the suspect was determined to belong to a close family associate of the suspect.
The assessment at the hospital by emergency room personnel indicated the suspect’s only wound was the self inflicted one. It was a contact wound located under the suspect’s chin. None of the Normandy Officer’s rounds struck the suspect.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons received notification from medical personnel at the hospital pronouncing the suspect deceased at 4:29 AM. An autopsy is pending.
