Las Vegas Police Officer Shot In Ambush

On September 6, 2015 at approximately 12:12 p.m., two uniformed LVMPD patrol officers in a marked patrol vehicle were en route to a disturbance call at a business located in the 4900 block of Tropicana Boulevard.

While stopped at the traffic light on Nellis Boulevard at Tropicana Boulevard, a male on foot opened fire on the officers and patrol vehicle.

The suspect shot into the patrol vehicle several times from a semi-automatic handgun, striking one officer in the hand.

Both officers immediately exited the vehicle while the uninjured officer chased the suspect on foot. The suspect was captured a short distance later and was taken into custody without further incident.

The firearm used by the suspect was also recovered by officers. During this incident no shots were fired by LVMPD officers.

The patrol officer was transported to UMC Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.
