Teen Dies After Being Shot at Nashville Hooters Restaurant

NASHVILLE, TENN — Hagan Newland, 18, of Ashland City, who was critically wounded Saturday night during an apparent drug-related shooting in the rear parking lot of Hooters on Largo Drive, died this morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Initial report: Gunfire arising from an apparent drug deal Saturday night in the rear parking lot of Hooters on Largo Drive critically wounded an Ashland City man.

South Precinct officers responded to the shooting call at 7:23 p.m. and found Hagan Newland, 18, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. He is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The investigation at present shows that Newland was seated in his gray Dodge Charger with four friends counting his money when, according to witnesses, three gunman approached to rob Newland. Newland resisted and was shot.

The three suspects, who are described as black men in their teens to early 20s, ran to a black Mercedes sedan, believed to be a 2000 model, with tinted windows and black hubcaps. They fled the area.

South Precinct detectives are pursuing active leads as they work to identify the gunmen.
