TEXAS — A police dog was shot following a police pursuit in North Houston Wednesday, police said.
The scene is in the 1400 block of Spears Road.
According to police, officers were attempting to pull over a stolen vehicle when the suspects fled.
After a short pursuit, two juveniles, one male and one female, fled on foot.
Officers and the K9 were chasing the suspects when the dog attacked an officer, latching onto his leg.
The officer shot the dog twice–police said it was unclear if the officer thought the dog was a stray or if he knew it was a police dog.
Both suspects were arrested. A replica pistol and a real handgun were recovered from the scene.
The wounded officer is expected to survive his wounds and the dog was undergoing emergency surgery at an animal hospital.
