Texas High School Gets Extra Security After Student-Made Threat

EL PASO, TEXAS — The El Paso Police Department’s Gang Unit has taken a juvenile into custody and charges are pending that stem from a social media post that indicated a threat against a local high school. Officers first responded to the incident at around 3:36pm on January 27, 2016 after a posting was seen on “Facebook” that indicated a person was threatening to shoot up Chapin High School. Gang investigators were able to identify the person responsible for the posting and took him into custody.

The offender, identified as a 16 year old male, is being referred to the Juvenile Probation Department on multiple charges related to this incident.

El Paso Independent School District Police assisted in this investigation as well. Investigators have indicated that they do not believe a threat exists at this time to the school.

The School is receiving an “additional law enforcement presence”, the El Paso Independent School District said in a news release.
