Kentucky Man Shot at Wife In Front of Kids: Police

COLUMBUS -- Police at Ohio State University are investigating a 'self-inflicted shooting' that happened at the Wexner Arts Center for Arts Sunday.

Russell Springs, KY. – 45-year-old Virgil H. Chapman, of Nancy, has been arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree-Police Officer, Assault 4th Degree (Domestic Violence) and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

The arrest occurred after units from Post 15 responded to 305 Collett Lane, Jabez in reference to a domestic violence call from the alleged victim and spouse, Cora Chapman.

The call was made on Thursday, March 31st at approximately 10:54 PM CST. Chapman advised that she and her husband had been arguing and when she attempted to leave the residence, he shot at her.

She was able to get away but left the couples 3 children in the home.

Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots coming from around the area of the residence. They were able to locate the children in the residence and remove them without incident and with no injuries. During a search of the surrounding wooded area, Virgil Chapman was located and arrested at approximately 4:18 AM CST.
