LOUISIANA — A 59 year old man named John Russel Houser has been identified as the gunman behind the cowardly attack on a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana Thursday night.
Police have said that Houser pulled out a handgun 20 minutes in to the film, killing two young women enjoying the film in front of him, he then set his sights on the rest of the theater, injuring 9 more people.
At a morning press conference, police said Houser was from out of town but had been staying a local motel in recent weeks.
Police say they found wigs in his motel room, and that his car parked just outside the theater door had a switched license plate on it, showing that he planned to flee the shooting and escape.
Survivors have spoken of the terrifying moment the gunman indiscriminately opened fire saying ‘there was blood everywhere,’ as he silently attacked the about 100 in the theater who ranged in age from 18 to 60.
