BARTOW COUNTY, Georgia — Bob Burns, founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died late Friday night in a car crash.
Robert Burns Jr., 64, was driving on a curve when his vehicle went off the road, striking a mailbox and a tree. He died at the scene. Georgia State Patrol says Burns was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation. Few details were available.
Burns was a member of the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Burns helped form the band in 1964 and left the band in 1974.
