SACRAMENTO, California — A man is in custody related to an attack that left a dog seriously injured yesterday afternoon. Marquayous Hill, 19, was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail yesterday on a felony charge of animal cruelty, and is being held on $10,000 bail.

On August 15, 2015, Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 4000 block of 43rd street in south Sacramento. A woman reported that a dog had been seriously injured, and identified Hill as the person responsible. The dog, an 8-month old pit bull, suffered serious injuries to one of its eyes and a puncture wound to its throat. The dog had been in the custody of Hill at a nearby park, where the attack is believed to have taken place.

Deputies contacted Hill at his residence nearby, where he was taken into custody without incident. An edged weapon, believed to be used to inflict the dog’s injuries, was recovered from Hill’s residence.

Sacramento County Animal Control personnel responded to the scene and took custody of the dog. It was taken to a local shelter for treatment and evaluation.
