SPOTSWOOD, NJ — On 07/04/2015, Patrolman Genovese attempted to stop a Toyota for improper high beams and speeding (46 in a 35 mph zone). Upon attempting to stop the Toyota, the driver (later identified as Jia Q Han of Franklin Twp.) began driving recklessly by weaving and break checking the officer, almost causing an accident.

The driver of the Toyota continued to elude the officer into East Brunswick as Ptl. Richard Sasso joined. The Toyota continued onto Old Bridge Turnpike in East Brunswick, then turned down a dead end street off Old Bridge Turnpike in South River.

The officers exited their vehicles and approached the Toyota ordering Han out at gun point. Han then turned the vehicle around and attempted to run the officers over with the car.

The chase then continued onto Old Bridge Turnpike in South River, Route 18 North in East Brunswick, through the city of New Brunswick, onto Route 1 in North Brunswick and Edison and onto Georges Road in North Brunswick. The pursuit was terminated when the vehicle jumped a curb in North Brunswick. During the pursuit, the Spotswood officers were assisted by officers from North Brunswick and Edison.

Ptl. Genovese and Sasso were able to identify the Toyota’s Connecticut license plate as a rental vehicle, rented by a Franklin resident. With the assistance of Franklin PD, they subsequently found Han in possession of the Toyota at his residence. There was also drug paraphernalia as well as a Hatchet on the passenger’s side seat of the Toyota.

Han was arrested and transported to Spotswood headquarters where he was processed. He was then remanded to Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick. Bail was set at $100,000.
