A 31-year-old man was charged today with trying to stab two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at a Metro train station in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Matthew Vodnoy said Thomas Francis Napack of Los Angeles faces two counts each of attempted murder of a peace officer with a knife use allegation and assault upon a peace officer.

Arraignment was scheduled today but was continued to tomorrow.

Napack is accused of charging at two deputies monitoring the transit station with a knife in each hand on Oct. 4, the prosecutor said. The defendant was shot by one of the deputies as they evaded the alleged stabbing attack, the prosecutor added.

Bail is expected at more than $2 million. If convicted as charged, Napack faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.
